Car dents anywhere on your VW look unsightly, and will continually draw your eye. When you want a dent removed, you could try the DIY approach, or you can visit your friendly VW dealer who can fix it for you. We’d like to advise you on the two options for removing that pesky dent once and for all.

Advice From Your VW Dealer: Two Options for Removing Car Dents

DIY Option

If you enjoy working with your hands and have a passion for DIY, you might like to try repairing a dent yourself. There are many DIY methods available, depending on the location of the dent. These are two of the ways you can remove that unsightly dent.

Vacuum Cleaner

A vacuum cleaner can do more than clean your carpet: it can be used to remove dents. The suction a vacuum uses to draw dirt out can also pull a dent out of the bodywork. To use this method, you’ll also need an old bucket. Cut a hole in the underside of the bucket to enable the vacuum head to fit securely inside it. Push the bucket against the area around the dent, and switch the vacuum on.

It may take some time to pull a dent out, and it’s advisable to set your vacuum cleaner to the highest setting to speed up the process. Since it doesn’t involve heat, this method won’t damage the paintwork.

Boiling Water

Boiling water works best on plastic sections, for example, a dented bumper. The boiling water technique can sometimes remove dents from thin metal. You’ll also need easy access to the rear of the damaged section. Pour boiling water from your kettle over the dented area, then reach behind the damaged section and push forward.

Boiling water makes the plastic more malleable, and you can push the dent out to restore the section to its original molded form. Once the dent is removed, pour cold water over the area to cool it and fix the shape in place again.
